When I was searching through Hurriyet paper’s archives, this news caught my attention. Actually Canada was also going to put it into practice but we have been using it unknowingly since 1968. (Diners Club)
45 years ago only a few thousand people had it but as of the end of 2007, 37 millions of people have plastic money. Do you understand what I mean? I am talking about credit card, already known as plastic money.
Imagine a really expensive, sport roadster. It can make 300km per hour and you increase your speed with the confidence of having such a car. Someday you have an accident because of excessive speed and smash the car along with ruining yourself. Who will pay for your action?
Is it you or your car?
When properly used, your can take you anywhere safely but with misuse it can cost your life. Credit cart usage is also like this. If you do not know how to use it, you have no strength left!!
Credit cart is indisputably the most loyal assistant of shopaholics. Addicted people can control their motive by thinking of the money they will pay after buying a product since the money they pay is like their punishment. When you do shopping with your credit card, you do not think that you are spending money since you do not pay in cash.
When you buy various things with your credit card and pay for them, the plastic money in your pocket lightens your repression by paying for lots of things all by itself.
Since credit card delays your payment (you pay for your purchases a month later), it leads you to do more shopping and therefore it results in increasing your expenses without you even notice!
To summarize, although it seems to make addicted people’s work easier, credit card’s variety and the having it effortlessly results in a great deal of problems in the long term.
Think about it, you bought lots of things and gave your credit card with a confidence to cashier. It is all. You lost nothing.
Rationalist people use their credit card taking into consideration its limit when they buy something needed. Their purses are not full of credit cards; they do not delay their payments. They are careful about not losing control and they achieve it.
For instance, two neuroeconomics professors from MIT make a research…
Saying that they have 2 tickets for tomorrow’s basketball match, researches want to sell the tickets in auction. Students put a price on tickets by raising their hands and the highest one gets tickets. The payment will be made before the game.
The same study is made in another class. The tickets go to the one who gave the highest price. He will pay with his credit card before the game. Although they are the same tickets, the one who paid in cash buys %50 cheaper than the one paid with credit card. This means that, the ones who has credit card accepts to pay a higher price.
Briefly stated, credit card is good from afar but far from good…
